Are Republican presidential candidates racist and homophobic?

They may not be personally but recent comments about Palestinians & gays in the military by Gingrich and Perry respectively should have voters concerned.

I knew the Cambridge killer

The triple homicide and eventual suicide in Cambridge, my place of birth, really is hitting hard for me. What makes the situation even more tragic for me is that I actually knew the killer.

White House Choir: all heaven breaks loose!

This elementary school choir from Boston called "Voices of Renaissance" sang at the White House holiday party on Wednesday. On Thursday they sang Christmas carols and gospel songs at a church in Maryland. Check out the practice and then how they wowed the crowd in these videos. Don't watch if you don't want to feel good! Oh yeah, My sister is the one who leads them in the rehearsal dance and my nephew is the young man with the glasses in the men's performance of "Invictus."

Zero tolerance policies do not work!

The case of the 9-year old student in North Carolina being suspended because he said his teacher was cute is just another example of how we in America seek to do anything in the name of "zero tolerance" to get our children out of the class room as opposed to actually teach them.

Privatizing Life (a poem on water rights)

After traveling the globe and being asked to write about issues highlighting water rights and access across the globe, I wrote the poem below...

____________

By the time you read this, 17 children worldwide will have lost their lives
Because 8 children die a minute in pursuit of potable water in order to survive
Partner that with the loss of husbands and wives
And you may end up cursing your eyes
Because you know these preventable mortalities will rise
Since water is now being privatized

Bachmann vs. Palin: no comparison

Outside of the fact that they are both women and are both prone to many gaffes, it does not make sense to keep comparing these two women. For example, Michelle Bachmann seems to have no problems talking about issues of race, whether she’s completely on or off. Most republicans including Palin will just invoke Dr. King’s dream in talking about race. Bachman makes comments like “President Obama failed black America.” That’s bold, especially for a party that has little black support.

If Obama's not black enough, what about me?

The ridiculous debate over whether President Obama is a real black man or even a strong black man has gotten out of control. He just proved to the world that he's American, now he has to prove that he's black? Wait, if he's not black, am I? Are you?

The true travesty of Soledad's documentary

Once again Soledad did a wonderful job of drawing attention to the plight of our American educational system. While she brought up several points that were downright disappointing, there is one issue that deserved more attention. The fact that this robotics competition was spawned by an entrepreneur and not the local, state, or national government should be appalling to everyone. It's great for Arne Duncan to talk about the need for top notch students but where's the money?
